RE: information on gas mileage

Brad,
FYI kerosene, #1 diesel, stove oil and Jet A are basicly the same product. Jet A has the least sulphur so most refineries refine to the Jet A spec and sell that for all four products. Different tax on each and dye in some but it is all the same. Only one storage tank instead of four.

RE: information on gas mileage

The no new refineries arguement makes no sense around here. There are four refineries in my local area and I have worked in all four as a crane operator.
All for presently refine four times or more the daily amount they did when they came on line due to expansion. In other words there has been the equivelent of three new refineries built into each one of them. Or twelve equivelent new refineries for the four plants.

RE: information on gas mileage

Sam is right on. Actually the refineries I have worked in could vary the amount of each of those three products to suit the market. If they needed jet fuel they made mostly jet fuel, if they needed gas they made gas. When they crack the crude it actually gains volume as Sam said and a 42 gallon barrel will grow.
One of the refineries makes heavy fuels like bunker fuel for ships and makes no more than 10% gas from a barrel of crude.
With all the exotic ways they can manipulate the crude molecules they can choose what they want to make as a finished product. There is no fixed ratio.

RE: A/C generator questions

No. The AC units are relatively quiet but even the "Quiet" generators like the EU Honda or the Yamaha inverter models are quite loud when they are at or above 50% output. They are just quieter than older generators but they are NOT quiet.

RE: Mounting Protect-a-Tow

The bungee cord on the Protect-A-Tow gets pretty tight at times. Can you run something from the eye bolts forward to take some of the pulling strain. A piece of small chain or cable on each eye bolt to something solid?
I used ours for a while and have gotten lazy and don't use it any more. The Samurai sets high enough it doesn't seem to get any rock chips and the Protect-A-Tow doesn't reduce the dirt accumulation so ours is in the garage. I would always get dirty taking it off and putting it on.

RE: Wireless Cellular Amplifier

Wilson Electronics is probably the leader in that stuff and they have a good name here. I have their 3w amp and the flat panel antenna and we get service where noone else does. We have Verizon.

RE: POSTING PICTURES

You will need to pick a photo hosting site that will give you a "IMG" format option. Forums use the IMG format. I found Picassa didn't and Photobucket does so I use Photobucket.
Copy the IMG photo file from Photobucket (or other) and paste it into your post. I use Windows XP and Ctrl V will paste the IMG address into the post.
Use the "Advanced Post Form"

RE: Whats better? Weber Q220 or Broil King PORTA-CHEF

There are a bunch of folks on this forum that think the Weber Q is about as good as it gets. We are among that group - great grille!

RE: Hot Air doesn't mix well with air conditioning

If you are having this issue when driving and the AC is the dash air it could be as Tom said and your furnace thermostat is set for heat and is on.

RE: Help-I am an idiot!!!

I tried every one of the suggestions made above when we had a similar issue. When we sold the rig several months later you could still smell it. Not as bad but we could still smell it. It wasn't too bad when it was cold but when it was shut off with the door open it was there. If we had kept the RV we were going to replace it.

RE: Tunnels/propane tanks

Just like on ferry boats you are supposed to have the tank shut off when going through some tunnels. If the truth were known I doubt very many folks comply with that regulation.

RE: Decals

If you decide to remove the decals you will find the surface under them will not be the same color as the area that has had the sun on it. I removed the stripe decals from my previous class C. I masked the stripe area and spray painted them back in.
Removing decals is not a easy job but the best thing I found was a decal eraser that came from a auto body supply store. It is a 3" diameter wheel made from eraser material and it has a 1/4" shaft to use in a electric drill. It works very well.

RE: House battery charging ?

Right answer!
No different than a 60a converter. The amperage output is determined by the batteries internal resistance that increases with voltage.

RE: Propane Quick Connect Line

Jst be sure it is low pressure propane you are connection to. The propane quick-disconnects are marked for low pressure and if you hook them to tank pressure they will leak. Ask me how I know (-: I am using 300 psi rated air quick disconnects on tank pressure and they work fine for me. They work for me and don't advocate them for others.

RE: Blue Coral Wash and Wax for Rubber Roofs?

Good, inexpensive and easy to apply ---Hmmm ---don't think so (-:
I did my GS a few weeks ago and it looks wonderful. About killed me-I'm old (-:
I washed with a Spic and Span solution in a weed sprayer and a washing brush. Then Meguiar's #49 Oxidation Remover heavy duty cleaner. Then Mothers California Gold Pure Carnuba Wax. The cleaner and wax applied with a 8" buffer and wiped off with terry towels.
Took 4 days but I won't have to do it again for a year or more.
Not fun but rewarding.

RE: Can You use Your Rig Self Contained?

For a week or less we don't need anything. We go mostly to state parks and use non-serviced sites all the time. Our experience is the non-serviced sites are better locations than the serviced ones. We have a good size battery bank, 390w of solar, a 1800w inverter, Direct TV for DW and a Honda EU 1000i in a sound deadening box to recharge if the sun doesn't shine. Our 6500 Onan only runs to run the microwave-too noisy. Most parks have one central dump and water available.
We haven't been in a private campground in three years.

RE: Swivel Wheel Trailer w/ 5th Wheel

I built my own using suspension from doublehitch.com. Works fine. I have it attached to the back of my Samurai toad. There is a picture of it in the photo section on Doublehitch web site.
